Events

These events have migrated to Patreon. But here is an insight into what we have available.

BI-MONTHLY CONVERSATIONS:

Latin Conversation Groups: Beginners and Omnibus (Online)

Discussions usually take place mostly, but not exclusively, in Latin; we consider this"immersive" not full "immersion."  All levels of Latin are welcome at either meeting and participants are even invited to just come and listen, or without having read the book.

Participants can earn Professional Development Points (PDPs) by coming to this (and other) events.

MONTHLY

BOOK CLUB: Usually Saturday or Sundays 2-3 pm EST (Online)

Every month we read a different (English) book connected to the monthly topic. Lately we've been lucky enough to be honored by a visit from the author!  Authors who have attended Lupercal's book club include:

Mary Beard, Nina MacLaughlin, Helen Morales, Gwen E. Kirby, Nikki Marmery, Emma Southon, and Stephanie McCarter, to name a few!

COZY (in the Wolves' Cave): Usually Saturday or Sundays 2-3 pm EST (Online)

Once a month we read a biography from Boccaccio's De Mulieribus Claris. In September 2024 we started with Eve and are taking our time working through various themes. These usually set the tone for other meetings. For example, in December we read Madeline Miller's Galatea and explored the concept of nasci, to be born. Our book club event featured Stephanie McCarter who talked to us about how she perceived that idea when she translated Ovid's Metamorphoses.

Sensitive Content

There is no minimum age for attending meetings, but please note that some books contain mature content.  Please learn a bit more about the book in advance to scan if it is appropriate or contains content which may be triggering.

The How and Why:

Visit us on Patreon and select a membership option to join this growing community! For the price of one cup of coffee, you can have access to synchronous or asynchronous events that will help not only your Latin proficiency but provide you with equitably and inclusive materials you can use in your classroom.
EG: Throughout the month of December Lupercal has put out a poem or passage of Latin written by a woman about winter or the holiday season. The Latin is glossed and a translation is provided. Take a look and join today!

Review Copies:

If you are an author, agent, editor, or publisher and would like us to consider your book for a future Lupercal read, please contact us.  We welcome works of all genres, especially those written by women and non-binary authors, and which are focused on or inspired by women from mythology and antiquity.
