Kirsten L. Crooks graduated from Boston University in 2009 with a BA in Ancient Greek and Latin, then returned to her hometown of Philadelphia to complete her Master's in Education from Temple University. She is in her ninth year of teaching Latin, currently at Abington Senior High School, a public school outside of Philadelphia. While originally too stubborn and afraid to make the leap to spoken Latin as a teaching tool, she has since seen the light and is now attempting to teach with a more active approach every day. She has a particular interest in bringing the language to life through the exploration of Roman culture, especially concentrating on the roles of marginalized groups in Roman society. She is also deeply committed to improving equity and ensuring social justice around the Classics, which is why she is thrilled to be a part of Lupercal. 

In her spare time, Kirsten reads, enjoys fiber-based handicrafts, and enthusiastically supports her beloved Philadelphia Flyers.
