Melissa Marturano and Lyla Cerulli
Dr. Melissa Marturano teaches Greek and Latin and ancient history at the high school and college levels. Her research surrounds sexualized violence in Ovid and other ancient authors and feminist pedagogy. She began to speak Latin about four years ago and is happy to have found a home at Lupercal. Outside of ancient studies, she works for the abolition of police and prisons and digital privacy from government and corporate surveillance for activists.
Dr. Marturano also hosts the Lupercal video series, Subsidia Latina, which is dedicated to strategies for improving your spoken Latin
"Lyla Cerulli teaches Latin at an all-girls' Catholic school. She will receive her Ma in Teaching Adolescent Latin from Hunter College in the Spring of 2020. Lyla has also received her BA in Classics and Psychology at Binghamton University in 2017.
Her undergraduate thesis "Compressa Est: A Script Theory Analysis of Rape Culture in Plautus Comedies," was inspired by the parallels she saw between Roman and modern comedy during her time as a stand-up comedian.
When she's not surrounded by Latin, Lyla enjoys embroidery, cooking, and other traditionally feminine activities which will come in handy when the apocalypse comes.
